DAHLGREN, Va., 1 June 2015. U.S. Navy shipboard networking experts needed Naval Tactical Data System (NTDS) interface boards for surface warships, research labs, and training sites. They found their solution from IXI Technology in Yorba Linda, Calif.

Officials of the Naval Surface Warfare Center in Dahlgren, Va., announced a $11.5 million five-year contract to IXI Technology on Thursday for NTDS interface boards, adapter modules and cables, peripherals, replacement systems equipment, simulators, NTDS I/O analyzers, and PowerNet converters.

IXI Technology (formerly Sabtech), specializes in a wide variety of NTDS equipment, as well as data I/O, test equipment, computers, and multiplexers. NTDS is a legacy Navy computerized information processing system developed in the 1950s and first deployed in the early 1960s on combat ships.

The Navy uses NTDS products in many different systems, inCLUDING INTEGRATED WARFARE SYSTEMS LAb, Aegis Training and Readiness Center, Surface Combat Systems Center, Combat Systems Engineering Development Site, Integrated Combat Systems Test Detachment, and Land Based Test Sites.

NTDS also is aboard the current Aegis fleet of Arleigh Burke-class destroyers and Ticonderoga-class cruisers. On the most modern surface warships NTDS is taking on a support role to high-speed fiber-optic networking backbones.

Despite its age, however, NTDS has a large installed base aboard Navy surface warships and land-based support facilities. The Navy awarded the contract to IXI Technology sole source because the company is the only source able to fill NTDS requirements, Navy officials say.

On this contract IXI Technology will do the work in Yorba Linda, Calif., and should be finished by May 2020. For more information contact IXI Technology online at http://ixitech.com, or the Naval Surface Warfare Center-Dahlgren at www.navsea.navy.mil/nswc/dahlgren.
