ASHBURN, Va., 4 Dec. 2015. The Curtiss-Wright Defense Solutions Division in Ashburn, Va., is introducing the 3U OpenVPX CHAMP-XD1 and 6U CHAMP-XD2 digital signal processing (DSP) embedded computing modules for deployment in extremely compute-intensive harsh-environment military electronic warfare (EW), radar, surveillance, and reconnaissance applications.

The modules use the Intel Xeon processor D-1500 product family. The modules, which are available with 8-core versions of the processor, also will be available with 12 and 16-core versions of the processor, which Intel will make available in the first quarter of 2016.

The 12-core version will offer extended-temperature support, and all of the variants offer 7-year availability. Intel Xeon processor D-1500 product family has the enhanced performance at low power that is for use on rugged open-architecture modules. The 3U CHAMP-XD1 is scheduled to ship in December 2015, with the 6U CHAMP-XD2 to follow in early 2016.

The CHAMP-XDx open architecture COTS modules have high-speed DDR4 memory and PCI Express Gen 3 data paths on the data plane and the expansion plane. The modules also have XMC card expansion.

The XD1 module supports a combination of 1 Gigabit and 10 Gigabit Ethernet interfaces, while the XD2 module adds support for 40 Gigabit Ethernet, as well as Curtiss-Wright’s Trusted COTS hardware and software security. The DSP modules also support Curtiss-Wright’s OpenHPEC Accelerator software development tools.
