ASHBURN, Va., 6 April 2015 The Curtiss-Wright Corp. Defense Solutions division in Ashburn, Va., is introducing the MPMC-9355-0002 multi-platform mission computer for image, signal, and radar processing aboard military and commercial aircraft and ground vehicles.
Users can configure the five-slot 3U OpenVPX rugged mission computer with as many as four 2.1 GHz VPX3-1257 3U OpenVPX single board computers, each with a quad-core 3rd Generation Intel Corei7 processor.
Connecting the MPMC's computer boards is a managed Layer 2 Ethernet switch and a PCI Express backplane infrastructure. The VPX3-652 Ethernet switch supports as many as eight external Gigabit Ethernet connections for inter-system communication.
Users can install different modules via each of the computer board's onboard PMC/XMC expansion sites. The MPMC-9355-0002 also can support high-performance graphics display by integrating an optional VPX3-716 graphics engine that can drive as many as four independent displays.
Power comes from a three-phase 115-volt AC power supply. The MPMC-9355-0002 mission computer meets specifications such as DO-160, MIL-STD-810, and MIL-STD-704 for resistance to extremes in temperature, altitude, shock, vibration, fluid susceptibility, voltage spikes, and electrostatic discharge.

The mission computer operates at full performance in ambient temperatures to 55 degrees Celsius using a rugged fan. The rugged conduction-cooled half-ATR enclosure isolates its installed modules from external environmental conditions such as humidity, dust and sand. EMI filters and gaskets ensure system security and increased reliability.
The MPMC-9355-0002 mission computer can be ordered as a modified commercial off-the-shelf (MCOTS) product with a modified front panel connector set, modified backplane wiring or a modified card set.
The system can be expanded for MIL-STD-1553, ARINC 429, and video capabilities. In addition, 28-volt DC and single phase 115-volt 400 Hz power supply options are available.
