PMC/XMC embedded computing carrier card for developing sonar, radar, and SIGINT systems introduced by GE

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va., 22 June 2011. GE Intelligent Platforms in Charlottesville, Va., is introducing the SPR418A PCI Express PMC/XMC carrier card for developing sonar, radar, military communications, and signals intelligence (SIGINT) applications. The carrier card helps systems designers configure PCI and Express mezzanine cards -- better known as PMC and XMC -- in high performance servers and small form factor PCs, GE officials say. The SPR418A can host either a PMC module supporting transfer speeds as fast as PCI Express transfer speeds, or an XMC module supporting speeds as fast as eight-lane PCI Express.

The embedded computing carrier card helps systems designers configure PCI and Express mezzanine cards -- better known as PMC and XMC -- in high performance servers and small form factor PCs, GE officials say. The SPR418A can host either a PMC module supporting transfer speeds as fast as PCI Express transfer speeds, or an XMC module supporting speeds as fast as eight-lane PCI Express. The Gen2 x8 PCI Express interface to the host enables the system to make unimpeded data transfers as quickly as the mezzanine card can allow. Thermal management comes from an integrated fan to cool the mezzanine card, which can remove heat from as much power as 25 Watts.

Connectivity and I/O support includes J4 to an optional 80-pin KEL connector, which is similar to an FPDP VITA 17 connector. J16 can connect to two SFF connectors providing for as many as four lanes of high speed serial connectivity. A standard PC power connector is available for stand-alone operation.
