SCFF optical transceiver for industrial, data storage, and instrumentation introduced by FCI

May 29, 2011
ETTERS, Pa., 29 May 2011. FCI in Etters, Pa., is introducing the SCFF optical transceiver for enterprise storage hardware, NICs, HBAs, HCAs, industrial, instrumentation, and medical applications. The SCFF transceiver provides transmission of as long as 150 meters over OM3 multi-mode fiber at 8G FC protocol with power consumption of less than 0.6 Watts. The optical transceiver can save in-board space without sacrificing performance or linear board density as compared to the existing SFP+ standard, FCI officials say.

The transceiver is built to the SFP+ (SCFF) form factor that is mechanically modified from the industry standard SFP+ form factor. The 11-pin electrical interface meets SFP+ MSA for high-speed interfaces. It has a 2-wire serial interface like I2C interfaces and power supplies. It also complies with 2G/4G/8G Fibre Channel specifications.

The optical transceiver is It is RoHS 6/6-complaint , and meets Directive 2002/95/EC and laser safety class 1-compliant per IEC/CDRH. Duplex LC optical interfaces are available for optical cabling hook-up.
