MIL-STD 1553/Ethernet bridign system for network-centric vetronics demonstrated by Curtiss-Wright Controls Electronic Systems at AUSA Winter

Curtiss-Wright Controls Electronic Systems is demonstrating a modular approach to intra-vehicular network-centric architecture modernization based on open-system building blocks at AUSA's ILW Winter Symposium and Exposition Feb 23-25, 2011 in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., at booth #1038. The demonstration features small form factor technology to achieve localized Ethernet input/output data concentration as well as legacy MIL-STD-1553 bridging to the modern Ethernet backbone.

Curtiss-Wright Controls Electronic Systems is demonstrating a modular approach to intra-vehicular network-centric architecture modernization based on open-system building blocks at AUSA's ILW Winter Symposium and Exposition Feb 23-25, 2011 in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., at booth #1038. The demonstration features small form factor technology to achieve localized Ethernet input/output data concentration as well as legacy MIL-STD-1553 bridging to the modern Ethernet backbone.
The technology, based largely on architecture research performed for the U.S. Army's Project Manager-Heavy Brigade Combat Team, can be used for achieving cost-effective compliance to the emerging VICTORY standard for both legacy vehicles needing a gradual technology insertion path, as well as new vehicle platforms, company officials say.
On one end you have 1553 and the other is Gigabit Ethernet, says Mike MacPherson, director of business development for Curtiss-Wright Controls. It enables peer-to-peer communication on whatever network the warfighter chooses, he adds.
Production units will be out by summer or early fall, MacPherson says.
The approach enables easy integration of capabilities such as data/video distribution, recording/playback, and network attached data storage.
The demonstration also will show information on the company's intelligent vehicle power distribution, and management capability which provides a means for integrated smart power monitoring and control to better assist the vehicle crew in managing critical onboard power resources.
