SCOTTSDALE, Ariz., 7 May 2008. VMETRO, maker of embedded computing solutions, selected Tundra Semiconductor Corp.'s Tsi578 Serial RapidIO Switch for its new Quad-Core processing engine and single-board computer. VMETRO launched two new 6U VPX-REDI offerings, which use the Tsi578 for large-scale DSP aggregation and also Tundra's Tsi148 VME Bridge, the highest bandwidth VMEbus bridge available.

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz., 7 May 2008.VMETRO, maker of embedded computing solutions, selected Tundra Semiconductor Corp.'s Tsi578 Serial RapidIO Switch for its new Quad-Core processing engine and single-board computer.

"RapidIO is the fabric of choice for our customers' embedded multiprocessing applications and RapidIO switches from Tundra are the ideal interconnect choice for VMETRO. By using Tundra's Tsi578 RapidIO switch, our VPX multiprocessor boards provide a system fabric with the features our customers demand -- low latency, low overhead, high throughput, peer-to-peer communication, reliability, and scalability. No other fabric offers this complete set of features," says Mike Jadon, chief technology officer, Embedded Products for VMETRO Inc.

VMETRO's MPE730 is a VPX-REDI quad-core processing board with dual PMC/XMC mezzanine sites and on-board Serial RapidIO and PCI Express fabric connectivity.

With dual Freescale Power Architecture MPC8641D processors, the four cores provide processing power while meeting rugged, extended temperature convection and conduction-cooled requirements.

Combining this processing power with the flexibility of dual PMC/XMC sites and the Serial RapidIO fabric enables powerful distributed multi-processing subsystems to be deployed and customized for a variety of applications such as radar and signal intelligence, says a representative.

VMETRO's SBC731 is a VPX-REDI PowerPC single-board computer with dual PMC/XMC mezzanine sites and on-board Serial RapidIO and PCI Express fabric connectivity. It uses a single Freescale MPC8641D processor; offers the same PMC/XMC, I/O, and interconnect capabilities of the MPE730; and is suitable for host board applications, such as mission and control processors.
