Curtiss-Wright chooses embedded GPS receiver from Rockwell Collins for vetronics networking

Vetronics designers at Curtiss-Wright Controls Defense Solutions in Ashburn, Va., needed a rugged military GPS receiver for the company's Digital Beachhead vetronics networking appliance for armored combat vehicles. They found their solution from Rockwell Collins in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Curtiss-Wright is choosing the Rockwell Collins SAASM-based MPE-S GPS receiver module for the Digital Beachhead electronics subsystems designed to be compliant with the U.S. Army's Vehicular Integration for C4ISR/EW Interoperability (VICTORY) initiative for interoperable vehicle electronics digital network services.

The Rockwell Collins SAASM-based MPE-S GPS receiver is the Army standard embedded GPS receiver for the Ground-Based GPS Receiver Application Module (GB-GRAM) program, Curtiss-Wright officials say.

Curtiss-Wright will integrate the MPE-S into the Digital Beachhead rugged COTS system that adds a rugged VICTORY-compliant networking backbone to new and legacy military ground vehicles.

The internal SAASM GPS receiver enables the Digital Beachhead to comply with Army embedded GPS policy, and will provide time, position, speed, and other GPS data as a VICTORY network service. The Digital Beachhead also has a 16-port Gigabit Ethernet network switch.

Digital Beachhead is for modernizing ground vehicles with VICTORY networking.

The MPE-S from Rockwell Collins is based on the company's Selective Availability/Anti-Spoofing Module (SAASM). It encapsulates all GPS classified data and signal processing into one tamper-proof module. SAASM provides jamming and spoofing protection for US and allied forces operating in hostile environments.
