WIXOM, Mich., 22 May 2012. Leaders of military and industrial digital I/O specialist Acromag Inc. in Wixom, Mich., are boosting their company's expertise in VME I/O and embedded computing with their acquisition this month of Xembedded LLC in nearby Ann Arbor, Mich.
Acromag is establishing the Xembedded Group, which will operate as part of the Acromag Embedded Solutions and Process Instrument groups, and will focus in serving former Xembedded customers, Acromag officials say. Acromag has hired all of the employees of Xembedded. The purchase will combine the product lines of both companies, officials say.
The Xembedded focus on VME, VPX, and COM Express embedded computing products "complements Acromag's FPGA, PMC, XMC, and I/O technologies," says Acromag President David Wolfe. Both companies historically have provided rugged products for military embedded systems.
Acromag provides I/O devices for military, public utility, transportation, manufacturing, and scientific applications. The Acromag signal-conditioning products include more than 100 transmitters, isolators, alarms, and computation modules. The company also offers analog and discrete I/O modules for Ethernet, Modbus, and Profibus.
For real-time control Acromag provides analog, digital I/O, and serial I/O bus boards for VME, PCI, and CompactPCI embedded computing in IndustryPack and PMC modules.
Xembedded, meanwhile, specializes in processor and I/O VME boards for machine-control, test, and data-acquisition uses in military, homeland security, industrial, power-generation, automotive test, robotic, and medical applications.
Acromag started in 1957 by designing measurement instruments for the aerospace and defense business and the oil and gas industry. In its early days, Acromag established a reputation for analog and digital control products for industrial I/O.
