BLACKSBURG, Va., 26 Aug. 2009. VPT Inc. in Blacksburg, Va., is introducing the VPTHVM-270 series mil specbus converter module for distributed power in military avionics, electronic warfare, and instrumentation applications.

With as much as 200 Watts of output power, this regulated power converter module for power electronics applications operates from a 270-volt bus to step down the power to create a regulated 28-volt bus for avionics power systems.

"With this module, engineers can create a 28 volts bus to run many of the avionics subsystems, such as electronic warfare or other instrumentation," explains Michael J. Bosmann, senior vice president of sales and marketing for VPT. "The VPTHVM-270 serves as the cornerstone for a distributed power system, powering several VPT DC-DC converters from one module."

A wide input voltage range accommodates MIL-STD-704 input power requirements for avionics and other applications. The efficient design reduces input power requirements and eases thermal management, thereby increasing the overall system reliability.

The devices measures 2.35 by 1.550 inches and weighs 85 grams, and saves space and weight in a power system. Additional product has include:

-- as much as 200 Watts output power;
-- single output;
-- high efficiency – as much as 91 percent;
-- wide input voltage range: 160 to 500 Volts per MIL-STD-704;
-- full operation over a wide -55 to 100 degrees Celsius STANDARD;
-- high isolation: 3000 volts;
-- ruggedized six-sided metal cases improving mechanical/environmental performance;
-- can be used in parallel as many as five units with current sharing;
-- all metal case improves EMI performance;
-- undervoltage lockout, fixed frequency, output soft start;
-- no optoisolators for ultimate reliability;
-- environmental screening including a 96 hour burn-in, 100 percent electrical testing, and temperature cycling testing STANDARD for all products;
-- testing to JESD22, MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-883; and
-- Designed and manufactured in a facility certified to ISO 9001, J-STD-001, and IPC-A-610 A rugged six-sided all metal package.
