ARINC 429/575 support for VPX, VME, and CompactPCI computer boards introduced by NAI

BOHEMIA, N.Y., 4 Dec. 2009. North Atlantic Industries (NAI) in Bohemia, N.Y., is introducing ARINC 429 and ARINC 575 avionics databus support for its VPX, VME, CompactPCI, and PCI multifunction computer boards.

BOHEMIA, N.Y., 4 Dec. 2009. North Atlantic Industries (NAI) in Bohemia, N.Y., is introducing ARINC 429 and ARINC 575 avionics databus support for its VPX, VME, CompactPCI, and PCI multifunction computer boards.

Known as the A4, the ARINC 429/575 A4 provides as many as six programmable ARINC-429/575 channels -- each one software selectable for transmit and/or receive, high or low speed, and odd or no parity -- to support several ARINC 429 and 575 channels simultaneously.

Other functions include A/D converter, D/A converter, synchro/resolver/LVDT/RVDT simulation and measurement, CANBus, MIL-STD-1553, synchronous/asynchronous RS232/422/485, discrete, TTL/CMOS, reference generator, differential transceiver and resistance temperature detectors (RTD).

Multifunction boards eliminate the need for specialized, single-function boards by providing communication and I/O functions on one card. The board architecture contains independent slots, which enables the user to mix-and-match functions to meet several requirements.

This multi-function approach improves density to save space and cost, reduce heat dissipation, and increase system reliability, NAI officials say.

The ARINC 429/575 function is supported on VPX, VME, CompactPCI and PCI multifunction boards with operating temperature ranges of -40 to 85 degrees Celsius, as well as and 0 to 70 C.
