BittWare commits to long-term VITA 41 VXS roadmap

LONG BEACH, Calif., 16 Jan. 2006. BittWare Inc., a signal processing specialist in Concord, N.H., signaled the company's commitment to a long-term VITA 41 VXS roadmap with the announcement Jan. 16 of the T2-6U-VME board.

The board is the company's most recent addition to their T2 family of boards based on the ADSP-TS201 TigerSHARC digital signal processor (DSP) from Analog Devices Inc. in Norwood, Mass. The T2-6U-VME is a commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) VME/VXS board based on the TigerSHARC DSP.

"BittWare recognizes that VITA 41 VXS is the only stable, viable option for providing the military and commercial markets with an industrial or ruggedized COTS solution," says Jeffry Milrod, president and chief executive officer at BittWare.

BittWare, which specializes in hybrid single-board computers that combine DSPs and field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs), made the announcement at the Bus and Board Conference in Long Beach, Calif.

BittWare's in-progress VME roadmap includes two additional boards: a hybrid signal processing board based on Altera's Stratix II GX FPGA and Analog Devices TigerSHARC processor, and a quad Stratix II GX board. These products are set for release later this year.

The T2-6U-VME (T2V6) is for demanding multiprocessor operations such as radar, sonar, communications, and imaging. The board comes in air- and conduction-cooled versions, and gives VME users access to the power of the TigerSHARC.

The T2V6 is a 6U VME/VXS board with eight 600 MHz ADSP-TS201S TigerSHARC DSPs, two FPGAs, a PMC+ site, 512 megabytes of SDRAM, and flexible, high-throughput I/O interfaces via the front panel, VXS switch fabric, and 2eSST VME.

The board implements a scalable architecture called ATLANTiS that enables system designers to reconfigure the I/O and communications. Implemented in the FPGA, ATLANTiS can also implement pre-, post-, and co-processing. Included are a VME-PCI Bridge supporting 2eSST, a PMC site with BittWare's PMC+ I/O extensions, digital I/O headers, and 16 SerDes high-speed serial transceivers (eight to the VXS switch fabric, eight to the front panel).
