BANGALORE, India, 16 Nov. 2006. Freescale Semiconductor, Wavesat, and Celestica have joined forces to provide a production-ready reference design that enables customer premises equipment (CPE) manufacturers to bring WiMAX-enabled products to market faster.

Celestica, a world leader in electronics manufacturing services (EMS), has joined a pre-existing collaboration between Freescale and Wavesat to enhance a platform for the creation of WiMAX-enabled products.

The solution features Wavesat's WiMAX Mini-PCI module and MAC software, Freescale's MPC8323E PowerQUICC II Pro processor, and Celestica's WiMAX Gateway CPE Solution Accelerator.

According to In-Stat, the number of fixed WiMAX subscribers worldwide is projected to reach 16 million by 2010, and the number of mobile WiMAX subscribers is expected to range from 15 million to 25 million.

The solution supports WiMAX Forum 802.16d-2004 certification and is designed for upgradeability to the IEEE(R) 802.16e-2005 standard for mobility in accordance with the WiMAX Forum ETG/MTG profiles.
