ALPHARETTA, Ga., 30 Oct. 2006. Systems integrators at L-3 Display Systems in Alpharetta, Ga., are choosing the Integrity-178B real-time operating system (RTOS) for the panoramic cockpit display on the future F-35 Lightning II joint strike fighter.
The Integrity-178B RTOS from Green Hills Software in Santa Barbara, Calif., will be part of the system processor within the F-35's panoramic cockpit display.
"L-3 Display Systems selected the Integrity-178B RTOS from Green Hills Software because of its use by Lockheed Martin in other systems onboard the F-35 aircraft," says Bob McGill, president of L-3's Displays. "We have identified Integrity-178B as a partitioned RTOS solution that can simultaneously meet today's challenging safety, security and information assurance requirements."
The L-3 panoramic cockpit display supplies pilot control and display for the major functions of the F-35 aircraft, including flight displays, sensor displays, communication, radio and navigation systems and identification systems.
Also supplying real-time software for other parts of the F-35 panoramic cockpit display is LynuxWorks Inc. in San Jose, Calif.
Integrity-178B, which is part of the Green Hills Platform for Avionics, is an ARINC-653-2 full-time and memory-partitioned RTOS and has been certified several times to the Federal Aviation Administration safety-critical standard DO-178B.
In addition to the F-35, the Green Hills Platform for Avionics is deployed on the Lockheed Martin F/A-22 and F-16 jet fighters.
