New mass storage mezzanine from Elma has fast secure erasure and write protection

The new, high-capacity mass data storage mezzanine supports 10 major defense agency secure erasure procedures via a front panel push button with an light emitting diode (LED) indicator to confirm data erasure. Specific defense agency standards supported by the Secure PMCDisk include fast clear/initialize; clear; DoD NISPOM 5220.22-M and 5220.22-M-Sup 1; NSA/CSS Manuals 130-2 and 9-12; AR 380-19; NAVSO P-5239-26; AFSSI-5020; and IRIG 106-07.

The new RoHS-compliant Secure PMCDisk ships complete with a 2.5-inch solid state flash drive. Current capacities support as much as 128 gigabytes. Software drivers are available for VxWorks, Linux, and Windows. It can be used on any board with an IEEE1386.1-compliant PMC site, such as CompactPCI, VMEbus, OpenVPX, VXS, and ATCA, replacing external hard drives or disk modules that require additional backplane slots or external connections.

The storage module supports SMART (self-monitoring analysis and reporting technology), which detects remaining useful drive life in order to avoid system failures that lead to catastrophic shutdowns, a key factor for applications requiring data safety, Elma officials say. In addition, the SLC (single level cell) 2.5-inch SATA solid state storage device further increases data reliability and retention.

Conformal coating is available, applied in accordance with MIL-I-46058C, Type UR. Extended operating temperature range can be as high as -40 to 85 degrees Celsius, based on user requirements. The ruggedized mezzanine withstands shock to 1,500 G at 0.5 ms half-sine and vibration to 16.4 G rms (10 Hz to 2,000 Hz random).
