ARINC 429 avionics databus line driver powered by one 3.3-volt power supply introduced by Holt

The HI-8596 automatically generates all ARINC 429 voltage levels on-chip, eliminating the need for negative voltage supplies or inverters typically found in ARINC 429 bus driver designs, company officials say.

MISSION VIEJO, Calif., 12 Nov. 2010. Holt Integrated Circuits Inc. in Mission Viejo, Calif., is introducing an ARINC 429avionics databus line driver powered by one 3.3-volt power supply. The HI-8596 automatically generates all ARINC 429 voltage levels on-chip, eliminating the need for negative voltage supplies or inverters typically found in ARINC 429 bus driver designs, company officials say.

The HI-8596 operates from one 3.3-volt supply using four external capacitors, resulting in low power dissipation and space saving. The device also has tri-state high-impedance outputs when both data inputs are taken high, enabling several line drivers to be connected to a common bus.

Different outputs are available for implementing external lightning protection, which meet the requirements of DO-160F, Level 3, waveforms 3, 4, 5A and 5B, Holt officials say.

An ARINC 429 application solution at 3.3 volts is possible by pairing the HI-8596 with Holt's DO-254 certifiable HI-3586 protocol integrated circuit. The HI-8596 is available in compact 16-pin SOIC and QFN packages. For more information contact Holt Integrated Circuits online at www.holtic.com.
