Rugged single-board computer based on Intel Core 2 Duo introduced by VersaLogic for harsh-environment applications

BOSTON, 22 Sept. 2010. VersaLogic Corp. in Eugene, Ore., is introducing the Mamba single board computer on a 5.75-by-8-inch industry-standard EBX form factor, and based on the Intel Core2 Duo P8400 processor for high-speed data- or graphics-intensive applications in defense, robotics, security systems, and medical applications. The Mamba embedded computing board performs at 2.26 GHz with mid-range power consumption of 18.5 Watts (typical). VersaLogic made the introduction this week at the Embedded Systems Conference in Boston.

The Mamba embedded computing board performs at 2.26 GHz with mid-range power consumption of 18.5 Watts (typical). VersaLogic made the introduction this week at the Embedded Systems Conference in Boston.

Available in commercial (0 to 60 degrees Celsius) and full industrial (-40 to 85 C) temperature versions, the rugged Mamba board products meet MIL-STD-202G specifications for mechanical shock and vibration for use in harsh environments.

The on-board PCI Express Mini Card socket supports plug-in WiFi modems, GPS receivers, flash data storage, and other cards for added flexibility. On-board data acquisition features include as many as 16 analog inputs, as many as eight analog outputs, and 32 digital I/O lines. A PC/104-Plus expansion site provides access to expansion modules. The SPX expansion interface provides expansion for additional analog, digital, and CANbus I/O.

Enhanced Intel SpeedStep technology enables users to fine-tune the balance between power dissipation and performance. The CPU board allows adapting to performance needs while minimizing power draw and heat dissipation. Intel's GM45 + ICH9M chipset offers graphics core speeds up to 533 MHz for high-end graphics, advanced 3D rendering, high-definition video playback, and media acceleration for video CODECs. Analog VGA and LVDS flat panel video interfaces support flexible display configurations.

Basic on-board features include dual gigabit Ethernet, two SO-DIMM sockets for as much as 8 gigabytes of DDR3 RAM, six USB ports, four serial ports, two SATA ports, HD audio, eUSB interface for removable flash storage, and three general-purpose timers.
