CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va., 23 July 2010. GE Intelligent Platforms in Charlottesville, Va., is introducing the SBC612 rugged 6U OpenVPX single board computer for harsh-environment military applications in intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR), electronic warfare, and military mission computing.
The computer board, part of GE's VPXtreme6 family of 6U VPXembedded computing products, has the eight-core QorIQ P4080 processor from Freescale Semiconductor, also is for legacy applications based on Freescale's Power Architecture. The SBC612 will enable designers to reduce a multi-slot configuration to one slot, and has a 30-Watt power envelope equivalent to that of previous dual core processors.
At the heart of the SBC612 is Freescale QorIQ P4080 processor, with eight e500mc cores operating as fast as to 1.5 MHz. These eight cores offer support symmetric and asymmetric multiprocessing architectures, and can host several operating systems on the same device for re-hosting legacy multi-board applications in military embedded systems within an OpenVPX system.
The QorIQ P4080 offers the Trust Architecture series of processor technologies for information assurance that prevent loss of system control, loss of data to an unauthorized party, and loss of intellectual property through reverse engineering.
With four x4 Serial RapidIO links and four x4 PCI Express links, the SBC612 supports as much as eight gigabytes of dual channel DDR3 memory. It includes Gigabit Ethernet, fast serial COM ports, USB 2.0, SATA, and GPIO, as well as two mezzanine sites, both of which are XMC/PMC capable.
The SBC612 is available in five air- and conduction-cooled ruggedization levels. It also offers VITA 48 formats for two-level maintenance (2LM) requirements. The SBC612 is supported by Deployed Test Software (BIT and BCS) with operating system support implemented for VxWorks, and Open Source Linux. Support for other operating systems, including Integrity from Green Hills Software, is planned.
