SAN JOSE, Calif., 14 Aug. 2007. With the goal of providing defense and aerospace embedded computing solutions that are more powerful, more reliable, and more cost-effective, LynuxWorks Inc., a provider in the embedded software market, and GE Fanuc Embedded Systems, a provider of rugged embedded computing solutions, will collaborate to create "Centers of Excellence," which will offer advanced developer support for systems based on the two companies' products.

The companies announced that they would create Centers of Excellence to serve as key interfaces for technical development and support for LynuxWorks and GE Fanuc Embedded Systems products.

The first Centers of Excellence to be announced are GE Fanuc Embedded Systems facilities in Towcester, U.K., and Raleigh, N.C. All GE Fanuc Embedded Systems engineers and developers, wherever they are located, will have access to all releases of LynuxWorks products, including access to the source code of LynuxWorks Board Support Packages (BSPs) and device drivers.

GE Fanuc Embedded Systems plans to make the LynuxWorks LynxOS 5 RTOS with Symmetric Multiprocessing available across the company's extensive -- and growing -- range of VPX-based single board computers and DSP systems. The initial port will be to the VPXtreme6 6U VPX SBC610 single board computer, which is based on the dual-core 8641D PowerPC and delivers exceptional I/O flexibility.

Also planned to benefit from the LynuxWorks software environment is the 6U VPX DSP230, the world's first 0.8-inch pitch quad 8641D solution.
