SUNNYVALE, Calif. – Diamond Systems Corp. in Sunnyvale, Calif., is introducing the Venus rugged small-form-factor single-board computer for demanding in-vehicle embedded computing applications. The computer board is based on the Intel Skylake 6th Generation Core i7/i5 processor.
Venus is available in two models: the VNS766-4GD high-performance 2.6 GHz i7 version. and the lower-cost VNS563-4GD 2.4 GHz i5 model. The board has DDR4 memory soldered on board, bottom side conduction cooling, two PCI Express Minicard sockets, and comes in the 3.5-inch embedded form factor.
The board includes six USB 2.0/3.0 ports, four RS-232/422/485 serial ports, 16 digital I/O lines, two Gigabit Ethernet ports, HDA audio, Camera interface, and TPM support. Venus supports three simultaneous independent displays consisting of VGA, HDMI, and LVDS LCD. All three displays are 4K capable.
For additional I/O needs, the board includes a PCI Express/104 OneBank Plus socket with support for up to 4 I/O modules. Venus also supports two MiniCard sockets; The top side socket supports full-size PCI Express and USB minicards along with mSATA disk modules, while the bottom side socket supports full and half size PCI Express minicards.

Mass storage options include SATA DOM, mSATA, and a connector for an external SATA drive. All ports are SATA III capable. The board offers 9-to-18-volt input voltage.
The board's bottom-side heat spreader enables operation to 85 degrees Celsius while keeping the top side clear for expansion.
Venus incorporates soldered memory, latching connectors, and a thick circuit board. The 4 gigabytes soldered memory may be upgraded to as much as 20 gigabytes using Diamond’s RSODIMM rugged memory modules, which are designed to MIL-STD-202G shock and vibration specifications. Standard DDR4 SODIMM modules also may be used.
