VERONA, Wis. – Extreme Engineering Solutions (X-ES) in Verona, Wis., is introducing the XPand6241 commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) rugged embedded computing system for computationally intensive tasks like command and control; radar and electronic warfare (EW); and secure networking in extreme environments.

The rugged computing system is based on the 13th Gen Intel Core i7 series (formerly Raptor Lake-P) processors and a Gigabit Ethernet switch hosting an XChange6300 Cisco IOS-XE Gigabit Ethernet embedded services router.

The XPand6241 helps make the most of processing and networking performance while providing a size-, weight-, and power-optimized alternative to traditionally larger slot-based systems; it is a small-form-factor system based on COTS 3U VPX embedded computing boards.

Single-board computer

The XPand6241’s first slot supports the XPedite8270 13th Gen Intel Core i7 processor-based 3U VPX single-board computer, which can host an optional XPort6107 XMC NVM Express solid-state drive. The system's second slot supports the XChange3031 3U VPX Gigabit Ethernet switch.

The XChange3031 can be configured as a managed Layer 2 switch, and delivers wire-speed across all of its ports and supports frames as large as 10 kilobits. It supports IPv6 and IETF RFCs and IEEE protocols.

The XChange6300 Cisco IOS-XE router XMC installed on the XChange3031 provides secure data, voice, and video communications to stationary and mobile networks. The system supports a memory module bay to host a removable PCI Express Solid-State Drive (SSD) flash memory module.

Rear I/O

The XPand6241 supports the rear I/O from the installed VPX modules with two circular connectors: a 130-pin connector for the computer board in the first slot, and a 93-pin connector with four integrated high-speed interface inserts for the switch in the second slot.

The mil-spec system meets MIL-STD-810 and DO-160, and conducts heat from the internal conduction-cooled modules to sidewall heat exchangers, where it dissipates to an externally attached cold plate.

The system includes an integrated MIL-STD-704 28-volt DC power supply and MIL-STD-461 EMI filtering. For more information contact X-ES online at www.xes-inc.com/products/rugged-systems/xpand6241.
