Aitech introduces rugged VME SBC with Intel Core i7 processing
CHATSWORTH, Calif. - Aitech has introduced the C165 rugged 6U VME single-board computer (SBC), designed to upgrade computing performance in existing defense and aerospace systems without requiring a complete architecture redesign.
The C165 uses an 11th-generation Intel Core i7-1185GRE Tiger Lake UP3 processor with integrated Intel Iris Xe graphics. The board supports up to 32 gigabytes of LPDDR4X-4267 memory with in-band error-correcting code (ECC) and up to 4 terabytes of self-encrypting NVMe solid-state storage.
Security features include a Trusted Platform Module (TPM) 2.0, Secure Boot, Intel Boot Guard, encrypted storage and secure-erase capabilities. Aitech groups these features under its AiSecure cybersecurity framework.
The board supports peripheral component interconnect mezzanine card (PMC) and switched mezzanine card (XMC) expansion sites for additional functionality and input/output interfaces. Air-cooled and conduction-cooled versions are available for different thermal-management requirements.
Designed as a pin-compatible successor to Aitech's C164 and C163 single-board computers, the C165 provides an upgrade path for existing 6U VME deployments. Aitech cites improvements of twice the CPU performance per watt and more than 2.5 times the graphics performance compared with its previous-generation VME platforms.
VME systems remain in service across military and aerospace applications, where replacing established computing architectures can require substantial redesign, requalification, and integration work. The C165 is intended to support technology refresh efforts while preserving existing platform infrastructure.
