Wet and Windy? It Must Be London in June

June 12, 2017

This past week, we were at EW Europe in London. EW Europe brings together the communities involved in EW, SIGINT, C4ISR, Cyber EM Activities (CEMA) and more.

It was a wet and windy start—in other words, typical British weather for June. I was at some great sessions on the first day, learning about the challenges facing integrators of ELINT/SIGINT systems before the exhibition opened late in the afternoon with a drinks reception and networking event.

We have had some excellent interactions with EW providers from across EMEA—from South Africa to Israel. Our single board solutions featuring Intel (Core i7 and Xeon) processors and our FMC/FPGA cards were catching the eye of integrators and solutions architects. The conversations we had were focused around how COTS hardware can solve the most demanding EW requirements with both low latency and high bandwidth requirements.

Abaco has a comprehensive suite of products from FMC (DAC/ADC) for data acquisition through to FPGA (VP880 and VP868) and back end processing on AVX-enabled Intel CPUs such as the Xeon SBC347D (possibly coupled with our NVIDIA-based GRA113 GPGPU solution for FFT processing). Our products leverage the power of the OpenVPX connector technology with an open standards approach to building systems utilizing COTS hardware.

Our FPGA and GPU technologies are the key to meeting the demanding requirements of our customers’ EW needs. In addition to our extensive COTS hardware offerings, our AXIS multiprocessor software suite with its DSP and signal processing middleware was of particular interest to users performing DSP operations on traditional CPU architectures or accelerating performance with a GPU co-processor. Our Intel/NVIDIA-based IPN252 is a hybrid single slot solution for such applications.

As always with trade shows, it was pretty punishing—but worthwhile, because it was so productive in terms of the people we met, and motivating because the people we met liked what they saw and heard. In fact—I’m almost looking forward to next year’s EW Europe show in Switzerland.
