Silicon Designs Announces Immediate Shipment of Popular MEMS DC Accelerometer Chip Series

May 2, 2025

For Immediate Release - Kirkland, WA, USA – Silicon Designs, Inc., a leader in rugged MEMS DC accelerometer technology, has announced that three of its most widely used industrial-grade, surface-mount accelerometer chip families are now available for immediate customer shipment. Known for their precision and durability, these MEMS DC accelerometer chips are engineered to meet demanding test and instrumentation needs and are now in stock for quick delivery.

As one of the few fully U.S.-based manufacturers that designs and fabricates its own MEMS DC surface-mount accelerometers, including MEMS wafer development, Silicon Designs is able to offer streamlined design cycles, short lead times, and competitive pricing. All standard product lines are developed using a combination of customer input and industry requirements, and may also be custom-configured to meet specific design specifications. Every stage of production, from fabrication to final testing, is conducted at the company’s ISO9001:2015 certified facility near Seattle, Washington.

In addition to directly supplying MEMS DC accelerometers for a wide range of low- to mid-frequency test and instrumentation scenarios, Silicon Designs also supports other sensor OEMs by delivering high-performance, private-labeled accelerometers, helping to alleviate some of the ongoing global supply chain shortages for electronic parts.

Silicon Designs’ three single-axis, industrial-grade surface-mount accelerometer chip series are available in quantities ranging from single engineering samples to high-volume OEM orders:

  • Model 1521 Series: A cost-effective, industrial-grade chip known for its long-term measurement stability and durability, available in eight full-scale ranges from ±2 g to ±400 g. Featuring a ±4V differential output, the 1521 is housed in a 20-pin LCC or J-lead surface-mount ceramic package that is hermetically sealed and RoHS compliant. The internal architecture integrates a premium MEMS sensing element with a specialized ASIC that includes an amplifier and temperature sensor. Designed for frequencies from DC to over 4000 Hz, it operates at +5 VDC with 5 mA power consumption and can withstand shocks up to 5,000 g. Its low noise floor (as low as 7 μg/√Hz for the ±2 g version) and stability across a -55°C to +125°C range make it a top choice for precise measurements.
  • Model 1522 Series: Designed for applications with more extreme or fluctuating temperatures, the 1522 provides improved thermal performance across the same full-scale range of ±2 g to ±400 g (available in a 20-pin LCC package). This series offers excellent noise characteristics and superior bias and scale factor stability even under rapidly changing thermal conditions. Each chip undergoes individual calibration and environmental chamber verification to ensure maximum reliability during operation from -55°C to +125°C.
  • Model 1531 Series: Built to withstand higher temperatures, this series offers reliable measurement performance in conditions up to +175°C, with available ranges from ±5 g to ±400 g. While performance specs closely match those of the 1521, the 1531 is specifically engineered using high-temperature materials and rigorous thermal conditioning, housed in a hermetically sealed J-lead package. It is thoroughly tested in climate chambers to verify stability and reliability in extreme thermal environments.

Silicon Designs’ precision manufacturing ensures that components across the 1521, 1522, and 1531 series are virtually identical in form factor, which means customers can switch models within the same g-range with minimal or no changes to test configurations, saving time and enhancing system flexibility.
