New 23-Port Parvus DuraMAR 5915 3X Series increases GbE Port Count, adds advanced network management and security features, and reduces power consumption 25%

AUSA 2014, WASHINGTON, D.C. (BOOTH #7809) – OCTOBER 13-15, 2014 – Curtiss-Wright Corporation (NYSE: CW) today announced that its Defense Solutions division, a Cisco® Systems Solution Technology Integration (STI) partner, has introduced the Parvus DuraMAR 5915 3X Series, an enhanced version of its commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) Parvus DuraMAR 5915 rugged SWaP-C optimized mobile IP Router subsystem. The new rugged subsystem combines an integrated Cisco® 5915 Embedded Services Router (ESR) with a high bandwidth, low-power Vitesse® Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) switch in a single compact and lightweight Line Replaceable Unit (LRU) that delivers a total of 23 Ethernet ports. The SWaP-optimized DuraMAR 5915 3X delivers 25% more GbE ports and adds additional advanced network management and security features while reducing system power consumption by 25%, compared to Curtiss-Wright’s legacy “1X Series” solution.

The DuraMAR 5915 3X speeds and simplifies the integration of networking routing and switching functionality in deployed military and commercial aerospace applications such as tactical ground vehicles and rotary and fixed wing aircraft. It enables system integrators to easily deploy Cisco Mobile Ready Net capabilities, including data, video and voice services, virtually anywhere LAN or WAN connectivity may be required, especially in mobile, airborne, ground, sensor and manned/unmanned vehicle applications.

“The Parvus DuraMAR 5915 3X extends high-speed network connectivity capabilities at the network edge,” said Lynn Bamford, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Defense Solutions division. “It layers Cisco technology with fully managed GbE switching capabilities from Curtiss-Wright to significantly increase the number of tactical devices connected at GbE speeds onboard aircraft and vehicles in harsh environments.”

The DuraMAR 5915 3X subsystem integrates both router and switch functions into a single subsystem, eliminating the need for the system designer to have multiple, standalone router and switch boxes. Thanks to its industry standard Cisco IOS software interface, the DuraMAR 5915 3X minimizes training requirements for customers while providing extensive support for advanced networking including Layer 2/3 IPv4 and IPv6 networking protocols, IP multicasting, Radio Aware Routing (RAR), Dynamic Link Exchange Protocol (DLEP), encrypted data (AES/IPSec/NSA Suite B/VPN), remote VoIP, Firewall/IPS/IDS, and Mobile Ad Hoc Networking (MANET) for connectivity in Comms on the Move (COTM) applications. It also supports Vitesse CE Services software to provide managed GbE switching features including SNMP management, precision timing (IEEE-1588v2), secure authentication (802.1X, ACLs, Web/CLI), redundancy (RSTP/MSTP), Link Aggregation, and Built in Test (BIT).

Designed for Optimal Performance in the Harshest Environments
The DuraMAR 5915 3X series is designed to deliver optimal performance in the harshest defense and aerospace environments. Like previous generation DuraMAR products, it meets extreme MIL-STD-810G, MIL-STD-461F, MIL-STD-1275, MIL-STD-704F standards for demanding environmental and EMI compliance. It also adds compliance to RTCA/DO-160 standards enabling the DuraMAR 5915 3X to be deployed in both military and commercial aerospace applications.

Complete Networking and Processing Solutions
As a switch/router subsystem, the DuraMAR 5915 3X Series complements Curtiss-Wright's Parvus DuraCOR mission computer subsystems in IP networking technology refresh and situational awareness upgrade applications deployed at the tactical network edge. It can optionally be integrated with a DuraCOR mission computer as a "DuraWORX" system for even further LRU consolidation and SWaP-C reduction. The GbE switch integrated into the DuraMAR 5915 3X is also sold standalone as the 20-port DuraNET 20-10 subsystem, or as a PC104 card (SWI-22-10).

With the introduction of the DuraMAR 5915 3X there are currently four available configurations to fit a wide range of deployed networking requirements:

  • "0X" Series: Base standalone Cisco 5915 ESR-based router
  • “1X” Series: Legacy variant that couples the 5915 ESR with a lightly-managed Marvell-based Layer 2 Gigabit Ethernet switch
  • "2X Series": Provides an all-Cisco IOS network routing and switching architecture with an integrated Cisco 5915 ESR and Cisco ESS 2020 Ethernet switch
  • "3X Series: New DuraMAR 5915 3X that combines the 5915 ESR with a higher bandwidth, fully managed Layer Vitesse Gigabit Ethernet switch running Vitesse CE Services software with support for Precision Timing (IEEE-1588v2), Link Aggregation, and Built in Test (BIT).
