NSA grants authorized vendor status to GTE for TACLANE IP/ATM encryptors

Officials at the National Security Agency (NSA) in Washington granted a GTE`s Government Systems request to become an authorized vendor for the TACLANE Internet Protocol (IP)/ Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) encryptor on a direct-sale basis.

Officials at the National Security Agency (NSA) in Washington granted a GTE`s Government Systems request to become an authorized vendor for the TACLANE Internet Protocol (IP)/ Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) encryptor on a direct-sale basis.

TACLANE is a Type 1 encryptor available that provides secure communications in a single device for both types of networks, GTE officials say.

GTE`s authorized vendor status, granted under NSA`s direct sales and marketing program, will speed delivery of the encryption technology to approved customers, which include the Department of Defense, federal agencies, and system-integration contractors that deploy networks on their behalf. Units will be available for shipment in September 1999.

"The authorized vendor program is a win for everybody involved," says Bob Dutton, vice president and general manager of Trusted Network Solutions for GTE Government Systems in Needham, Mass. "Customers get their equipment faster, NSA handles less paperwork and we are able to be more responsive to market demand for the products we offer."

The TACLANE encryptor, developed for the NSA by GTE, is designed for use in tactical networks as well as fixed strategic networks or office environments. It is small, easy to transport and ruggedly built, GTE officials claim. TACLANE will secure communications on networks such as the dynamic Tactical Packet Network, the Defense Information Systems Network (DISN) and the Internet, facilitating the integration of these and other mobile and fixed networks. — J.M.
