Engineers at Space Power Corp. in San Jose, Calif., needed a rugged military-grade power converter for a space application. So they chose the MI-200+MI500 from Vicor Corp. in Andover, Mass.

Vicor`s rugged technology combined with some modifications by Space Power experts for a radiation-hardened space application, says Christian Lazarovici, vice president of electrical engineering at Space Power. Lazarovici declined to comment on the space project due to contractual reasons.

Vicor`s family of MI power components are designed to MIL-STD-810 and MIL-STD-202 are for severe environments. The MI-200 50 to 100 watt, high-density DC-DC converters while the MI J00 operates at 10-50 watts.
