Leaders of the Motorola Semiconductor Products Sector in Phoenix are introducing what they claim is the industry`s first true analog counterpart to a field programmable gate array - the MPAA020 field programmable analog array, or FPAA. This new device enables designers to create custom analog integrated circuit designs with flexibility similar to digital FPGAs. The new device is available in the MPAA3DS development system evaluation kit, which includes evaluation board, manual, PC interface cable, and CD ROM containing an interactive design tool. The CMOS device uses a switched capacitor CMOS op amp as the core programmable element. It has 20 core cells arranged in a 5-by-4 matrix, with 13 I/Os each with its own op amps for buffering or signal conditioning.
