Developers of real-time Ada code need tools that enable them to better handle complex software issues. Users at Integrated Systems Inc. in Sunnyvale, Calif., chose ObjectAda from San Francisco-based Aonix for its performance in heavy-use environments.

Larry Lehman, a systems architect at Integrated Systems says Object Ada enables him to compile rapidly - as fast as C - and to handle large problem sizes. His company is involved in simulation and real-time code generation; for instance, developers provide the core simulation and code generation tools for the International Space Station.

ObjectAda is based on Ada95, the latest iteration of the Ada language since Ada framers standardized the language in 1983.

While there are other Ada compilers on the market, Lehman says ObjectAda facilitates multi-language development by interfacing well with C and C++.

"We`ve been testing others, and Object Ada is leading the pack," Lehman says. "They`re pushing the right strategy for multi language design - fast compilations, tools to develop Java code and Internet features."

In addition, Lehman claims the development environment is on par with those found in the C and C++ development environments. "This gives Ada a fighting chance. You won`t displace C, but Ada95 has a real good future because of what they`ve addressed with ObjectAda," he says. - K.S.
