EL SEGUNDO, Calif., 9 June 2005. The U.S. Air Force is looking to a team of BAE Systems and Raytheon Co. to develop a network-centric mission-planning capability for the U-2 reconnaissance aircraft.
The team, which is working under terms of a $12.9 million contract, also will develop common software to plan intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) missions for the U-2, RC-135, E-3, E-8, E-10, Global Hawk, and Predator aircraft.
On the team are BAE Systems North America in Rockville, Md., and the Raytheon Space and Airborne Systems division in El Segundo, Calif.
"The BAE Systems-Raytheon team brings together Raytheon's proven U-2 sensor planning and BAE Systems' air vehicle and ISR mission planning expertise to provide pilots with a low-risk, low-cost, best-of-breed mission planning system," says Ted Spilman, BAE Systems' vice president for Defense Systems.
Tom Kennedy, vice president for Raytheon's Integrated Airborne Systems business, cited the common technological strengths of the two organizations in ISR.
