LAKE FOREST, Calif., 9 March 2008. Getac Inc. in Lake Forest, Calif., is introducing the B300 rugged notebook computer with the option of a high brightness sunlight readable panel of 1200 nits.

This rugged notebook computer complements Getac's recently announced E100 lightweight rugged tablet computer.

The notebook for mobile computer applications has optional sunlight-readable LCD display that ensures continuous use under bright ambient lighting conditions and extremely bright outdoor environments by intensifying the visibility of the B300's LCD display.

Getac's 1200 nits sunlight readable panels can be incorporated with touch-screen functionality. The brightness of competing panels can be reduced by 20 to 30 percent when tough screen functionality is added.

The B300 has a black-out mode whereby users can turn off all lights (including the panel backlight and all LED indicators), to avoid being conspicuous in darkened conditions and exposing a current location. An optional night-vision mode from micro-current control technology eliminates the need for a screen optical filter when wearing night vision goggles.

A light sensor designed to detect ambient lighting conditions adjusts the B300 panel's brightness automatically which consequently conserves battery power. The B300 offers a 12 hour battery life with its onboard 9 cell battery.

The B300 has a hard-wearing magnesium alloy case resilient to small drops and hard knocks and features a shock-mounted hard disk drive. The computer is IP54 and MIL-STD-810F compliant is equipped with sealed I/O caps and doors to prevent solid particles and moisture such as dust, rain and spillages from entering the unit.
