FARMINGDALE, N.Y., 11 July 2006. Telephonics Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Griffon Corporation, has received a contract award valued at more than $6 million from the U.S. Air Force's Electronics Systems Center at Hanscom Air Force Base, Mass. According to the agreement, Telephonics will provide the AN/UPX-40 Mark XIIA/Mode S Identification Friend or Foe (IFF) common module interrogator.
Mode 5 and Mode S are new interrogator modes of operation, which enhance performance, improve security and heighten situational awareness for the war fighter to minimize fratricide. This program shall result in the delivery of hardware no later than September 2007.
The common module interrogator with its ALL Mode open systems architecture exists in several configuration models. The various versions of the AN/UPX-40, AN/UPX-40(V), and AN/UPX-505 multi-mode interrogator have been delivered and are currently under contract for rotary wing, fixed wing, and surface platforms.
The AN/UPX-40 is designed to be compatible with the Telephonics IFF equipments being supplied for the U.S. Navy's MH-60R helicopter, the Canadian CH-148 Maritime Helicopter, the Canadian CP-140 Aurora upgrade program, and other international IFF systems.
This program will be managed from Telephonics' facilities in Farmingdale, N.Y.
