BAE Systems offers rad-hard 200 MHz RAD750 microprocessor for satellites and other space applications

MANASSAS, Va., 16 June 2010. The BAE Systems Electronics, Intelligence & Support (EI&S) segment in Manassas, Va., is offering the 200 MHz RAD750 radiation-hardened microprocessor for satellites and other space applications. The rad-hard RAD750 is based on the PowerPC microprocessor architecture.  

MANASSAS, Va., 16 June 2010. The BAE Systems Electronics, Intelligence & Support (EI&S) segment in Manassas, Va., is offering the 200 MHz RAD750radiation-hardened microprocessor for satellites and other space applications. The rad-hard RAD750 is based on the PowerPC microprocessor architecture.

BAE Systems is packaging parts to begin qualification to the Qualified Manufacturing List (QML) specification of the U.S. Defense Supply Center Columbus (DSCC) in Columbus, Ohio. Rad-hard QML-Q testing should be complete by this year, while QML-V testing should be finished by 2011, BAE Systems officials say.

With design improvements and the switch to BAE Systems RH18 technology, the 200 MHz RAD750 offers enhanced performance in speed and radiation tolerance. The 200 MHz RAD750 is PowerPC compliant and is form/fit/function compatible with the previous generation product.

To further increase performance, the 200 MHz RAD750 is capable of operating with as much as 1 megabyte of the 132 MHz L2 cache that uses the 1.5 divide clock ratio setting in the RAD750. The 1-megabyte L2 cache is on schedule to complete qualification testing this month.
