SECAUCUS, N.J., 12 May 2010. Panasonic Solutions Co. in Seacaucus, N.J., is introducing the newest member of its Toughbook mobile rugged computer, the Toughbook 31, with an Intel Core i5 or i3 processor, 1,100 nit touchscreen display, and rugged certifications beyond MIL-STD-810G and IP65. The rugged laptop is for military personnel, first responders, and field workers in industries such as telecommunications, utilities and energy.
The Toughbook 31 offers desktop-class performance, as well as improvements in 3D graphics from an ATI Radeon HD 5650 card. The rugged notebook computer can use the Intel Core i5 microprocessor because of a hybrid computer cooling system that keeps the internal temperature down while still maintaining optimal protection from liquids, dust and other environmental hazards.
The high-reliability notebook computer withstands drops from as high as six feet and has achieved an IP65 rating for protection from water and dust.
The machine has a 13.1-inch XGA LCD touchscreen and is available with Panasonic CircuLumin technology for full-circle viewability from bright sunlight to pitch darkness. Brightness of its screen ranges from 1,100 nits to 2 nits for concealed nighttime use for military and public safety users.
The Toughbook 31 offers battery life as long as 11 hours. LED backlighting generates low power consumption and delivers performance in cold weather. The battery charges 47 percent faster than its predecessor, the Toughbook 30.
The Toughbook 31 combines Wi-Fi 802.11a/b/g/n and Bluetooth v2.1 +EDR, with an option for WiMAX capability, Gobi2000 mobile broadband technology from Qualcomm, and built-in webcam.
The Toughbook 31 also supports options for an insertable SmartCard reader and fingerprint reader to use biometrics to protect mission-critical data.The Panasonic Toughbook 31 will be available worldwide starting May 12, 2010. In the United States, the Toughbook 31 is expected to be available starting at an estimated street price of $3,799 from authorized Panasonic resellers.
