BILLERICA, Mass., 26 April 2007.American Science and Engineering Inc. (AS&E) has received a $2 million order for Z Backscatter Vans (ZBV) from a U.S. government client. The order includes operator training, service, and warranty.

"An effective tool for mobile x-ray inspection, the ZBV will support the security initiatives of a valued U.S. government client," Anthony Fabiano, president and CEO of AS&E, says. "The ZBV provides rapid bomb detection, as well as high maneuverability in rugged terrain and urban environments. With proprietary Z Backscatter technology, the ZBV offers mobility and flexibility."

AS&E's ZBV is a mobile screening system built into a commercially available delivery van. The ZBV allows for immediate deployment in response to security threats, and its high throughput capability facilitates rapid inspections. The system's rapid vehicle inspection capability allows one or two operators to conduct x-ray imaging while the ZBV drives past suspect vehicles and objects. For personnel safety in dangerous environments, a remote console is available for operating the system in stationary mode from a distance of up to 500 meters.
