COLOGNE, Germany, 25 April 2007. Christie was selected by Rockwell Collins to power the visualization system for two full dome simulators for training Saudi Air Force Tornado aircraft pilots. The domes will each feature 11 Christie Matrix 4000 3-chip DLP projectors and marks the first time that 3-chip DLP technology will be utilized in high-performance fast-jet simulators.
Rockwell Collins provides solutions for simulation and training and visual system products for the U.S. Army, Navy, and Air Force and in the international arena.
The Christie Matrix 4000 projectors were selected for the full-dome simulator due to their compact size, up to 6000 ANSI lumens, and adjustable contrast ratio from 1000-2000:1 for accurate nighttime scenes. Combined with the ChristieTWIST image warping, enhanced edge-blending capabilities, and Christie AccuFrame to reduce visual artifacts caused by fast-moving objects, the results are image realism and performance.
