BOXBOROUGH, Mass., 22 May 2007. Intertek Group plc, a leader in testing, inspection and certification, has been named a certification agency for the Federal Aviation Administration's (FAA's) visual guidance lighting equipment approval program(VGLEAP). The program includes the testing and certification of lighting and visual aid equipment, such as runway approach lighting, to applicable FAA standards for safety, performance, and quality.

As part of the testing and inspection for the VGLEAP program, Intertek will evaluate airport visual aid equipment to ensure it has been manufactured in accordance with applicable FAA specifications. The testing and inspection of these products will provide the FAA with independent verification of product quality, helping to bolster safe airport operations.

"By partnering with Intertek for the testing and certification of the approach lighting systems, the Navigation Services Organization of the Federal Aviation Administration can focus their efforts toward creating new specifications and the commissioning of approach installations," says David Edwards, general manager for Intertek's Lighting Group.
