Space electronics webinar to address radiation, thermal management and reliability

MAE's 28 Oct. panel will explore how commercial space initiatives, modular architectures and high-reliability components are influencing satellite electronics design. This free event is sponsored by Apex Microtechnology, Elma Electronic, and IR HiRel, an Infineon Technologies Company.

NASHUA, N.H. - Military + Aerospace Electronics cordially invites engineers, systems designers, and program managers to join a free editorial webinar at 2 p.m. EDT on 28 Oct. that examines the technologies and engineering challenges shaping space electronics, from proliferated satellite constellations to deep-space exploration missions.

The hour-long panel discussion will explore how engineers are balancing performance, power efficiency, size, weight, and reliability in electronics designed for the harsh space environment. Topics will include radiation effects, thermal management, high-speed data processing, advanced sensors, communications, and long-duration mission reliability.

The discussion will also examine how commercial space initiatives are influencing electronics development through modular architectures, rapid prototyping, and the use of commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) components. Panelists will consider how open standards and systems-level design approaches can help engineers integrate components into increasingly capable space systems.

Speakers will include Eric Faraci, principal applications engineer at Infineon IR HiRel; Mark Littlefield, director of system products at Elma Electronic; Aidan Nash, field applications engineer at Apex Microtechnology; and Joshua Broline, senior director of product marketing and applications engineering at Renesas Electronics Americas.

The panel brings together expertise in high-reliability semiconductors, power electronics, embedded computing architectures, and radiation effects testing. Littlefield also contributes to VITA and Sensor Open Systems Architecture (SOSA) standards development, including work on OpenVPX and small form factor technologies.

Attendees will gain perspectives on component selection, system integration, and design trade-offs affecting the reliability and performance of electronics in space applications.
