Aitech introduces SOSA-aligned 3U VPX Ethernet switch/router

CHATSWORTH, Calif. - Aitech has introduced a 3U VPX Ethernet switch/router designed to provide high-speed networking for military and aerospace embedded computing systems.

The U-C6850 is a fully managed 10/40 Gigabit Ethernet switch/router that is aligned with the Sensor Open Systems Architecture (SOSA) Technical Standard. The board provides up to 320 gigabits per second of total switching capacity in configurations supporting up to eight 40GbE or 32 10GbE Ethernet interfaces.

The U-C6850 uses Layer 2 switching and Layer 3 routing and is designed to connect computing resources, sensors, and communications systems in distributed mission systems and high-performance computing environments.

The board supports IEEE 1588v2 Precision Time Protocol for network time synchronization and includes integrated security features. Aitech also designed the unit for low power consumption and SWaP-C optimization in military and aerospace applications.

The company says the U-C6850 is intended for technology-refresh and modernization programs involving aircraft, ground vehicles and naval platforms that require higher-bandwidth networking without replacing an entire embedded computing architecture.

The U-C6850 expands Aitech's high-speed Ethernet connectivity portfolio alongside the company's M622 10/40GbE Ethernet switch/router, which uses an XMC form factor. The two products provide different form-factor options for systems requiring high-speed managed Ethernet connectivity.

The U-C6850 is designed for applications requiring high-bandwidth data exchange among distributed computing and sensor-processing resources, including sensor-fusion architectures.
