Airbus takes orders for 274 passenger jets today, bringing the company's Paris Air Show total to 726

PARIS, 23 June 2011. European passenger jet manufacturer Airbus in Toulouse, France, continued its sales juggernaut today at the Paris Air Show in Le Bourget, France, signing orders for 274 more passenger jetliners, which by rough count brings Airbus total aircraft sales at the 2011 Paris Air Show to 726. Show sales for Airbus archrival Boeing Commercial Airplanes in Seattle, meanwhile, have been quiet since Wednesday.By far most of the aircraft Airbus has sold at the show have been the A320neo, which is a new-engine version of the single-aisle medium-range Airbus A320, which competes internationally with other single-aisle narrow-body jetliners such as the Boeing 737.Today is the last of four business-only days at the Paris Air Show -- the days when exhibitors and manufacturers traditionally conduct all of their business transactions. The show will be open to the general public Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. The show, which is perhaps the largest aerospace and defense event of 2011, ends Sunday afternoon.

Today at Paris Airbus took an order for 200 A320neo passenger jets from AirAsia, an airline based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The deal represents the largest order ever placed for the A320 family, Airbus officials say, and makes AirAsia the world's largest airline customer for Airbus single-aisle aircraft.

Also today, Airbus took an order for 72 A320neo aircraft from India airline GoAir in Mumbai, India. GoAir now operates 10 Airbus A320s. Capping Airbus sales today was an order from Japanese commercial carrier Skymark Airlines in Tokyo, which inked an order for two of the massive Airbus A380 super jumbo jets, which Skymark will use on international routes between Japan, Europe, and the United States, Airbus officials say.
