PARIS, 21 June 2011. The Brazilian navy plans to buy two more U.S.-built S-70B military helicopters from Sikorsky Aircraft Corp. in Stratford, Conn., through the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) foreign military sales program. Brazilian naval leaders bought four S-70B maritime patrol and anti-submarine-warfare (ASW) helicopters from Sikorsky in 2010. Sikorsky made the announcement this week at the 2011 Paris Air Show in Le Bourget, France.Sikorsky will begin delivering the SH-70B maritime helicopters this December, and will begin delivering the two new SH-70Bs under the latest contract in 2012, Sikorsky officials say. Sikorsky is a subsidiary of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE:UTX).The multi-role S-70B Seahawk helicopter is designed to perform ASW, attack hostile surface warships and terrorist watercraft, perform general maritime patrol missions near shore and from surface warships, as well as a wide variety of other naval missions.
