NASHUA, N.H. – Military & Aerospace Electronics and Intelligent Aerospace have recognized Wearin' SA in Vaud, Switzerland as a platinum-level winner in the publications' 2020 Innovators Awards for the company's Wearin’ Connected Vest for wearable integrated power and data management.

The Connected Vest is a centralized integrated connectivity system for the infantry warfighter with an integrated distributed data and power bus that can eliminate the need for several batteries, external wires, and break-out cables that can weigh soldiers down and limit their movements.

The vest offers optimized power management through its central power source; enhanced usability through optimized cable management; and convenience from the integrated data and power bus for easy cleaning and replacement, as well as for technological upgrades when more advanced components become available.

The 2020 Military & Aerospace Electronics and Intelligent Aerospace Innovators Awards are to recognize products as solutions to difficult aerospace and defense systems design challenges. The awards are in three tiers: platinum, gold, and silver. The awards were announced on 7 Sept. 2020.

Today’s dismounted soldier typically carries more than 77 pounds of gear. Reducing the weight of equipment without compromising safety and performance in combat is a key concern for soldier modernization programs worldwide, Wearin' officials explain.

Achieving a desired 20-to-25-percent reduction in weight requires rethinking the design and tactical interconnectivity of many types of soldier-worn electronic and communication systems. The goal is to optimize size, weight, and power (SWaP) to enhance soldiers’ operational and decision-making abilities.

Wearin’s ergonomically designed wired vests combine wearable technology for all essential communications with lighter, smaller electronic devices.

An integral distributed data and power bus eliminates the need for serval batteries for each device and eliminates the need for external wires and break-out cables that can weigh soldiers down and limit their movements.

These solutions offer three main benefits: optimized power management through the single central power source; enhanced usability through optimized cable management; and ultimate convenience through the integrated data and power bus that is designed for easy cleaning and replacement.

The smart wearables enable intelligence communication within platoons, enhancing situational awareness, and powering the Internet of Battlefield Things (IoBT).
