WESTWOOD, Mass., 16 March 2011. Acumentrics Corp. in Westwood, Mass., is introducing the Rugged-UPS 2500 DC uninterruptible power supply (UPS) and power conditioner units for military combat vehicles that shut off automatically in vehicle roll-overs to protect vehicle occupants, power generators, and sensitive electronic equipment. The rugged uninterruptible power supply (RUPS) units for vetronics systems automatically sense the orientation of the vehicle or piece of equipment, and shut off when angles are outside pre-set parameters to provide vehicle roll-over protection. These units also can send a 12-volt DC trigger signal to another system to relay an emergency alarm or activate another safety-related device. Changes to the default angle of activation -- including deactivation of the function -- are optional.

"Typical applications where this shut-off have is particularly helpful include Humvees, ships, trains, planes, tracked vehicles, and construction equipment where significant roll, inversions, or vibrations would present a dangerous situation to personnel or power sources," explains Jeff Boudreau, senior applications engineer at Acumentrics.

The Rugged-UPS 2500 provides 2,000 Watts of nominal 28-volt DC output. A wide voltage range and frequency tolerance enables users to power up with field generators in any international standard and protects mission-critical equipment such as communications devices from power surges, spikes, brownouts, blackouts, and noise.
