NASHUA, N.H., 25 July 2008. NextComputing, manufacturers of flextops and rugged portable computers, debuted an internal 300W 24V DC input power-supply option on its NextDimension Pro and Evo lines, as well as the new Vigor Evo HD. This new power-supply unit can utilize DC power, or work in conjunction with an external AC/DC switching power supply to utilize 110/220 volt AC power.

"The internal 24V DC option enables deployable computing when 110/220V AC power is not available. Our portable systems are often utilized for complex applications in environments where only DC power is accessible, such as military vehicles, ships, and aircraft. This also enables new on-site applications such as oil/gas data visualization, remote testing, and video file/camera acquisition. This option provides the reliability of DC power supplied internally, making our systems flexible enough to address even niche computing markets like marine, industrial, and oil and gas research," relates Bob Labadini, president and CTO of NextComputing.

The DC power supply needs no adaptor, which lightens the load of required equipment for portable applications, saves space on board a vehicle, improves power reliability, and saves money, says a representative. Internal power supplies also provide protection from cross-wiring and over-current.

NextComputing's portables are unique; they are flexible enough to adapt to a number of applications within the broader range of military, test/measurement, and broadcast industries. All systems offer an integrated screen option if a GUI is needed, high-performance dual- and quad-core processors from AMD and Intel, and multiple I/O configurations.

When returning to an environment where standard 110/220V 50/60Hz AC power is available, NextComputing offers its own external AC/DC switching power module for continued use of the internal 24V DC power supply. This external 250W/20V power module provides additional operation flexibility.

NextComputing's internal 24V DC power supply exemplifies the company's dedication to minimize system footprint and maximize operation flexibility and reliability.
