Silicon Line launches 20-Gbps low-power SerDes chipset

The chipset also supports bidirectional sideband communications for I²C, general-purpose input/output (GPIO), digital audio, SPI control signals, and sensor clocks.

MUNICH - EverProX Technologies Munich GmbH, under its Silicon Line brand, has introduced the MSDL 20G serializer-deserializer (SerDes) chipset for high-bandwidth camera and vision systems. The chipset comprises the SL8582x serializer and SL8581x deserializer and supports two simultaneous serial links operating at up to 10 Gbps each.

The chipset extends MIPI D-PHY data connections over optical fiber or differential copper links. According to the company, optical connections can span tens of meters, while differential copper connections can reach up to 2 meters, enabling longer-reach camera connectivity with reduced cable weight and complexity.

Typical power consumption is 71 milliwatts per optical link and 87 milliwatts per electrical link, excluding the integrated sideband SerDes. The chipset also supports bidirectional sideband communications for I²C, general-purpose input/output (GPIO), digital audio, SPI control signals, and sensor clocks.

Silicon Line identifies applications including industrial machine vision, robotics, medical endoscopy, augmented and virtual reality systems, defense, and uncrewed aircraft. The company is sampling the chipset to early-access customers in bare-die and 4-by-4-millimeter µBGA-78 package formats. Evaluation kits are available for link validation.
