CLARKSBURG, Md., 17 Oct. 2013. Leaders of military radio communications specialist Thales Communications Inc. in Clarksburg, Md., are changing the company's name to Thales Defense & Security Inc. to reflect the company’s increased technology base and product portfolio.

Two Thales businesses merged with Thales Communications -- the navigation, surveillance, and simulation segment of the Thales air traffic management organization, and the former Thales USA Defense and Security.

They join Tampa Microwave, Visionix, and InterSense -- the businesses acquired by Thales Communications during 2012. Tampa Microwave specializes in small manpackable, tactical satellite communications (SATCOM) terminals for high-bandwidth, voice, video, and data battlefield communications. Visionix and InterSense design helmet-mounted display and motion tracking systems.

As part of the intra-Thales mergers, two other Thales businesses came under management control of Thales Communications, with no changes in their leadership. Those companies are Thales e-Security, a provider of data protection solutions, and Advanced Acoustic Concepts -- a Thales-DRS joint venture that provides advanced sonar systems.

Thales Defense & Security is based in Clarksburg, Md., and has facilities in California, Florida, Illinois, Kansas, Massachusetts, New York, and Pennsylvania.
