Harris Corp. wins $16 million U.S. Army order for Falcon III AN/PRC-117G multiband manpack tactical radios

MELBOURNE, Fla., 22 June 2011. Harris Corp. (NYSE:HRS), an international communications and information technology company, won a $16 million order from the U.S. Army to deliver Falcon III AN/PRC-117G multiband manpack radios systems. The AN/PRC-117G radios will support the Army’s transition to a networked digital battlefield. The software-defined, upgradeable platform for voice and data supports network-enabled missions, such as convoy tracking, mission operations planning, and medical evacuation (MEDEVAC).

The AN/PRC-117G radios will support the Army’s transition to a networked digital battlefield. The AN/PRC-117G is widely deployed by all branches of the Department of Defense, fulfilling current requirements, and is upgradeable to meet the emerging requirements of tomorrow," explains Brendan O'Connell, president, Department of Defense business, Harris RF Communications.The AN/PRC-117G is a Joint Tactical Radio System (JTRS) Software Communications Architecture-certified, NSA Type-1 certified wideband manpack radio system offering NSA-certified High Assurance Internet Protocol Equipment (HAIPE) networking encryption for information assurance.AN/PRC-117G manpack radio development follows the U.S. JTRS program's Enterprise Business Model (EBM), which encourages companies to develop next-generation tactical communications solutions using their own investment capital. The Falcon III AN/PRC-117G and other Falcon III radios have been adopted by the U.S. Department of Defense, federal agencies, and key allies, including the United Kingdom, Canada, Germany, other NATO countries, and Australia.
