Remcom updates XFdtd electromagnetic simulation software with new RF circuit elements
STATE COLLEGE, Pa. - Remcom in State College, Pa., announced it has released version 7.11.2 of its XFdtd three-dimensional full-wave electromagnetic simulation software with new circuit-solver elements for modeling radio frequency (RF) feed networks and coaxial interconnects, expanded electric-material capacity, and tools for organizing and filtering complex simulation projects.
The update adds an N-way reciprocal power-divider element and a coaxial transmission-line element to XFdtd's schematic editor. The power divider distributes power among a user-defined number of branches for modeling antenna arrays, feed networks, and multiport systems. The coaxial transmission-line element models physical coaxial cables within the circuit solver based on their dimensions and material properties, including conductor and dielectric losses.
The additions expand XFdtd's frequency-domain circuit-simulation capabilities by letting engineers represent additional feed-network and interconnect elements within the software, rather than transferring those portions of a design between separate tools.
The update also removes XFdtd's previous 256-material limit, enabling simulations with many distinct electric materials. Remcom says the expanded capacity can benefit simulations involving detailed anatomical models and imported computer-aided-design models containing many different materials.
For antenna-array and other geometric modeling applications, version 7.11.2 adds the ability to create linear patterns along arbitrary directions rather than restricting the pattern to the local coordinate-system axes.
XFdtd also adds component tagging and filtering for project organization. Engineers can assign custom tags to components and filter the project tree to display components that match selected tags, helping manage projects with large numbers of components or multiple design variants.
Frequency filtering has been expanded throughout post-processing. Users can filter result tables and plotted frequency data to focus on selected frequency bands, reducing the amount of data displayed in broadband simulation results. The release also adds batch export of Touchstone files, including S-parameter results from different matrices.
Remcom says version 7.11.2 includes more than 50 additional usability, performance, scripting, and other updates. The release also includes performance improvements for rendering XY plots with large datasets, plus numerous reliability and software fixes.
