Chroma integrates MXO oscilloscopes into automated power test system
IRVINE, Calif. - Chroma Systems Solutions Inc. has added support for Rohde & Schwarz MXO Series digital oscilloscopes to its ATS 8000 Power Conversion Device Automated Test System for automated testing of power-conversion devices and power supplies.
The integration gives ATS 8000 users an additional oscilloscope option for automated waveform capture, transient analysis, debugging, and calibration during power-electronics development and production testing.
Rohde & Schwarz MXO oscilloscopes provide acquisition rates of more than 4.5 million waveforms per second. The instruments use a 12-bit analog-to-digital converter and provide up to 18-bit vertical resolution in high-definition mode. Depending on the model, vertical scaling can extend down to 0.5 millivolts per division.
MXO 5 and MXO 5C oscilloscopes are available with up to eight analog channels. Rohde & Schwarz ScopeSync software can synchronize multiple MXO 4, MXO 5, and MXO 5C oscilloscopes, supporting measurements across up to 24 synchronized channels. This capability is intended for applications that require simultaneous observation of multiple signals.
The combination can be useful for testing complex power-conversion systems with multiple power modules and backup-energy systems, including battery- and capacitor-based architectures. High channel counts can allow engineers to correlate multiple voltage, current, control, and other signals during development and troubleshooting.
The ATS 8000 uses Chroma's PowerPro 5 software to control automated test sequences. The software can also execute external programs written in C# or Python, allowing engineers to incorporate application-specific analysis and calibration functions into automated testing. Chroma cites applications including Python-based decoding of PMBus status and error codes and C# programs for proprietary calibration calculations.
The ATS 8000 is designed for automated testing of power-conversion devices and power supplies in research and development, validation, and production environments.
