Officials of the Army Contracting Command-New Jersey at Picatinny Arsenal, N.J., re asking Mnemonics to provide the M152 and MK152 Remote Activation Munition System (RAMS). The M152 RAMS is for Army Special Forces, while the MK152 is for the Marines and Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD).
RAMS is secure radio-controlled system that controls demolition charges remotely to help destroy enemy hidden explosives or create stealthy mine fields that can be turned on and off.
It is a man-portable remote-activation system capable of initiating demolition and sabotage devices in all geographical areas, weather conditions, and hostile battlefield conditions which may include electronic countermeasures, smoke, dust, nuclear, biological, chemical (NBC) attack, and small arms fire.
RAMS offers the capability to destroy, delay, and disrupt an enemy while avoiding direct contact. It consists of a transmitter and two types of receivers, an electric output to initiate blasting caps, and an explosive output to initiate C4 or other items directly.
Prior to engagement, operators can perform a full power range data link test to make sure all signals are active through an automatic self-test that is built into the transmitter and receivers.
RAMS weighs slightly more than three pounds for the transmitter and receiver, and has a system range of slightly more than three miles.
